Life isn't all crank shafts and manifolds though… she is a member of an organization called The Keepers, who serve as a moderating force between mortals and powerful god-hybrid beings called Oracles, scattered across the world.

 

Oracles are the result of the fusing of an object called a Waystone to a willing host, allowing a god-spirit to inhabit that host and use their body for their own desires.

 

This "joining" process is overseen by the Keepers, who are sworn to abide by an ancient pact to join as many stones as they can, while keeping the peace between the Oracles and mortals.

 

The most powerful among the Keepers are referred to as Waykeepers. These individuals, armed with powerful bridging magic amplified by their Djinni partners, are rare and highly sought after by Keeper factions scattered across the planet, as they are the only ones besides other oracles who can challenge an Oracle in direct combat.

 

Soon, it will be Tsenaya's time to choose whether she will remain a humber Gearkeeper, or take on a higher, more spiritual role as a Way keeper with a Djinni partner like her mother, Nailah.

 

In order to help her decide, Nailah decides to show her how wondrous, or how deadly a Joining can be…
